Afrihealth is a smarter tech-enabled healthcare platform integrated with Blockchain for patient control, data security, and accurate patient care. The platform guarantees authorized data exchange between different systems and enhanced security and privacy. The advanced level of security using the Blockhain technology builds trust among patients.
Challenges We Encountered
The exchange of patient data should happen in a secure environment across labs, hospitals, and pharmacies. The development process took it into account to ensure no tampering occurs in the patient data handling. That process was especially a challenging task when integrating new tech systems with existing legacy systems.
The use of Blackchain was essential in embedding efficieny into pharmacy supply chain to maintain a track of the medicines from the manufacturers to the suppliers. Since numerous stakeholders and middlemen are involved, it required a dedicated system to achieve a synchornisation across the medical supply chain.
Traditional healthcare providers showed reluctance in transitioning from centralized control to decentralized system. Since they disrupt workflows, the concern remained on data sharing, in particular from insurers and other organizations inside the hospital ecosystem.
The platform should enable patients to book doctors, schedule appointments, book ambulance services, request virtual consultations and get remainders on every scheduled appointments. For rapid adoption, the systems must have intuitive UI/UX designs reduce information overload but presents every detail clearly.

How We Overcame Challenges
Blockchain integration and role-based access controls proved efficient in ensuring secure data sharing across labs, hospitals, and pharmacies. This ensures data integrity, prevents unauthorized modifications, and maintains transparency across all transactions.
The healthcare platform was developed to provide a tamper-proof ledger that assured secure access and storage of patient records. Improved interoperability helped build trust among healthcare providers and patients. Empowering patient control, doctors can quickly access specific parts of their patient data.
A holistic view of patient history and instant access to care helped doctors deliver accurate treatment for their patients. Through continuous tracking and personalized plans, the platform offers continuous care for patients and seamless monitoring for doctors.
Blockchain can be used to create a shared, real-time ledger that tracks medicines from manufacturers to end users. Smart contracts can automate verification between stakeholders, reducing dependency on intermediaries and improving traceability and efficiency.

Meticulous testing on every functionality, usability, performance, security, and every other crucial aspect was conducted to ensure the smooth functioning of the healthcare app.
